Foundation 191 announced grants totaling over $9,800 to schools in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage school district at the May 25 School Board meeting. Twenty grants were awarded to recipients representing preschool, elementary school, middle school, high school, special education and community education.
Since its inception in 2005, Foundation 191 has provided more than $100,000 in grants and in-kind contributions to supplement and enhance students’ experiences.
ECFE, Tiny Tots, Ready to Grow & Learn | Puppet Pals, early childhood learning with help of classroom puppets
Sioux Trail | Math Mites Fourth Grade Competition, all 10 elementary schools compete
Harriet Bishop Service Club | Focus on Service Day and Ronald McDonald House project
Hidden Valley | “Billy B. Brown” and “Hey Jack” Love to Read Book Packs, to motivate emerging second grade readers
Marion W. Savage | Whaletale Publishing Center, students in K-5 publish books they’ve written
Sky Oaks | Sky Fliers Program, to promote student leadership for facilitating activities
Sioux Trail | Coding/Programming Unplugged Activities, fundamentals of computer programming
Sioux Trail| First Graders Today, Leaders Tomorrow, students track world events
Sioux Trail | Buddy Bench, no one gets left behind and promotes inclusion at recess
William Byrne | Math Games for Fun Home Learning, games for kindergartners and families to enhance learning at school and home
Eagle Ridge Middle School | Service Club, engage students with school and community
Eagle Ridge Middle School | Classcraft: Gamifying the Classroom
Metcalf Middle School | School Garden & Landscaping, students update and maintain garden and landscaping at school and grow vegetables
Nicollet Middle School | Lights, Camera, Action, camera equipment to produce a Nicollet newscast
Eagle Ridge, Metcalf, Nicollet Middle Schools and Burnsville High School | Latino Parent and Student Engagement, enrichment opportunities and events for Latino students and families
Burnsville High School | Engineering Awesomeness Events, host student engineering events to get kids excited about STEM and robotics
Burnsville High School | Bowls for Brainpower, sponsor Brain Power in a Back Pack and Ceramic Bowls to provide food to be sent home in back packs
Burnsville High School | Giving Garden Shed, concrete base for equipment storage shed
Community Education | 191 Discover Swim, swimming lessons at Eagle Ridge for Hidden Valley students with greatest need following American Red Cross standards
Special Education and Community Education | Poly Hockey program equipment
Foundation 191 also sponsors Senior Awards Night at Burnsville High School where graduating seniors receive college scholarships through the Community Scholarship Program. More than $89,500 was awarded at this year’s ceremony.
The group primarily raises funds through donations and two signature fundraising events 1) an annual golf tournament and 2) Grapes and Grains wine and craft beer tasting at Ames Center.
