The Foundation is currently seeking someone to serve as its Treasurer. This position is a volunteer position and can be as much as an active Board member who participates in meetings and events, or simply an officer who reports to the Board upon request. Please email email@example.com for more information.
Congratulations to Stephen Fiebiger, former Foundation 191 president, who was recognized as a winner of one of the 2018 John Coskran Volunteer Awards at the May 10 ISD 191 School Board meeting.
These annual awards honor and recognize volunteers throughout the school district who give of themselves to enhance our students’ educational experiences, and/or demonstrate the importance of citizenship to our children. Individuals and groups involved in ISD 191 including parents, community members, students, and staff are all eligible to receive this award. Nominations may be submitted by any group or individual affected by the ISD 191 volunteer program. Persons may be nominated in more than one category and in more than one year.
In 2004 Steve, a very involved parent volunteer in District 191, began asking if there would be a way to put together a foundation that would work to provide and enhance high quality educational opportunities for all students across the district. Steve met with district staff and active volunteers in the community to ask others how such an organization could benefit all students in the district.
After determining that a foundation could be a great help to the district in providing additional opportunities for learning and growth for students from preschool on, Steve, an attorney, began the process of setting up a 501c3 organization and finding volunteers to serve on the organization’s Board of Directors. Foundation 191 was born in February, 2005 and Steve began his 13 year tenure as Chair.
Since its inception, Foundation 191 has provided more than $100,000 in grants and in-kind contributions to be used in our schools. These grants have touched literally every student in the district with funds awarded to Early Childhood Education, all ten elementary schools, the three middle schools, Burnsville High School and the Alternative High School. In 2017, the Foundation took over sponsoring the Burnsville High School Community Scholarship Program that awards more than $100,000 yearly in scholarships.
ISD 191 is indeed fortunate to have someone like Steve Fiebiger who devoted his time, expertise and energy to provide all our students opportunities they would not have had without his desire to create Foundation 191 and his tireless work since its inception to grow it and its ability to touch everyone.Back to Top
